P!nk - the truth about love
Okay, so this is my first album review and I'm starting with this album because it's my favourite of the year. I'm going to do this review in a style of a track by track review.
1. Are We All We Are - This song is a brilliant opener to this album, a truthful account of how P!nk believes people used to treat her. I think this should be a future single in my opinion. The childhood chants of 'Are we all we are', adds to the emotion, this song has a similar message of Born This Way and Who You Are. Defiantly give this track a listen.
2. Blow Me (One Last Kiss) - This brilliant song (with a very cheeky name) is brilliant, it is classic P!nk, and to think she would have mellowed after the birth of her daughter. This track deserved to reach number one, and along with the album, I believe this single is one of the best of the year.If you haven't heard this yet then what are you waiting for....go now!
3. Try - Again, this is P!nk at her very best! When it starts off you may be fooled into thinking its a ballad, but soon as the chorus kicks in you know its a storming P!nk single. Try is reminiscent of Stronger by Kelly Clarkson in its message, but that doesn't take away the emotion in P!nk's voice. P!nk deserves more success again in my opinion with this song, her songs are some of the best around and many of them have mediocre success on charts, and Psy gets to number one with a song that nobody understands, what is this world coming to!
4. Just Give Me A Reason - This song grew on me, but that is nothing about P!nk, its my opinion of Fun.'s Nate Ruess, I'm not a very big fan of his high, sometimes very girl like voice. But this song is very emotional and as usual, P!nk adds her raspy voice to make this song perfect. She out sings Nate constantly. The only criticism is where this song is placed on the album, but I'm not really a large fan of ballads so that is my own opinion, out of context it is perfect.
5. True Love - This song is funny as it is amazing! I think this song should be a future single also.....like most other tracks off this album. 'You're and asshole but I love you', speaking how many feel about their loved ones, this track is the perfect track for just after an argument. Lily Rose Cooper, or Lily Allen as she will always be remembered adds a little soft touch to this track that makes it beautiful.
6. How Come You're Not Here - This track is amazing! It's an instant song that will have you tapping you feet along to. Again, P!nk sticks to the formula of 'If its not broke, don't fix it', this is classic P!nk talking about classic P!nk subjects....and I wouldn't want it any other way. 'I'm like a stoner, without my bong' is just one of the amazing lyrics that is in this track. It won't be a waste of time listening to this song once...or twice....or three times!
7. Slut Like You - AMAZING! If this track doesn't become a single then P!nk's team need their heads bashing together. The first line is 'I'm not a slut, I just love love', after that you just know it's going to be a great song. This song is a female message to men who sleep around, it's saying, if you do it and are called a stud then I'm going to celebrate being a slut like you. This was my favourite track for about 6 weeks, I can't praise this song enough, it's amazing!
8. The Truth About Love - The title track, this song has an amazing chorus and the pre choruses are brilliantly funny, 'The truth about love is it's blood and it's guts, Purebreds and mutts, Sandwiches without the crust', comparing a relationship to sandwiches...how much better can a song get. My only criticism is the bridge, it seems as though they didn't know what to do, so just filled it in.
9. Beam Me Up - This song is a beautiful track, about someone who she loves dearly and just being with them is special. This song had to warm on me, I listened to it a couple of times before I liked it, it is probably my least favourite song off the album but I still like it, that is how good the album is! My least favourite track is still a song that would be the best on most albums.
10. Walk Of Shame - If you've ever had a one night stand then this is your song and just by listening to it is you apology to god (if he exists.....yes I'm atheist). This song is one of the best off the album and I believe this will be a future single. '1 step, 2 step counting tiles on the floor, 3 steps, 4 steps, guess this means that I'm a whore', P!nk is taking the piss out of herself and I love it! P!nk is one artist who doesn't take herself too seriously and on these tracks her personality shines right through.
11. Here Comes The Weekend - This song with Eminem should be a classic weekend song just like Cheers (Drink to That), 'We don't look for trouble, just enough to, see in double', YES P!NK YES! That's what we want, we don't want to see straight! Well I don't on a weekend. I don't really like Eminem's little addition to the track, I just think that it's unneeded. But other than that, this song is going to be on my Friday playlist for many years to come.
12. Where Did The Beat Go? - This song has a beat that is very reminiscent of the 90's, and to me sounds like very early P!nk. I don't have a lot to say on this track, its good, but not a lot goes on, but I would definitely give this a listen.
13. The Great Escape - This is a beautiful, amazing, gorgeous, jahmazing, it is just perfect! I cried the first few times I listened to this song, actually cried. About helping a friend through suicide and then telling of their own story, this song is very emotional. If you don't listen to this song and then cry then you have a heart of stone! 'I'm the king of the great escape', this is the lyric that gets me, I just turn into a blubbering mess.
14. My Signature Move (Bonus Track) - This song has an amazing chorus. I mean, everybody has felt like this before, that they are pushing someone close to them away because of a articular mannerism they have. This song should be on the main album like many of the songs on the deluxe edition, but which songs would have been taken off the normal edition, that's how good this album is.
15. Is This Thing On? (Bonus Track) - Again, another amazing song with a chorus that is just amazing! If the last two songs aren't singles I'm going to go and bash P!nk's teams head against the wall! This track is about keeping a relationship going after a few years and if it's worth it, this song is defiantly about P!nk's own experiences.
16. Run (Bonus track) - This is my least favourite track of the deluxe edition, but like off the normal edition it's by no means terrible, it's actually a very good track, but the only reason it is my least favourite is because I feel I need to be in a particular situation to listen to this, like in a bad place. But the little girls voice in the bridge is so cute and you should give this track a listen.
17. Good Old Days (Bonus Track) - Well this song is a bundle of joy, my foot was tapping almost immediately. In a country song style this song is very happy and talks about the past and how she will love those days for the rest of her life. Again I can't write much on this track but that does not mean that I don't like it, this is a brilliant song!
18. Chaos and Piss (Deluxe Itunes Track) - This song has altered P!nk's voice so much that it doesn't really sound like her. But this song is amazing, the lyrics and mood of the track fit perfectly, even though this won't be a single this track is still worth a listen, or two. I believe P!nk's tracks are very understated in the music industry and that songs like this deserve a lot more recognition.
19. Timebomb (Deluxe Itunes Track) - This track is amazing, it even bests Slut Like You, it is a pop rock track and classic P!nk talking about love and in classic P!nk style she is like 'Yo, back off, it's only love'. 'Break it, take it, oh fuck it have everything', the swearing just adds to the raw emotion f this track, and I know I've said this millions of times but if this is not released as a single I will just give up on the music industry.
20. The King Is Dead But The Queen Is Alive (Promotional Song, and on the Japanese Edition) - OMG! Why isn't this track on the normal or even the UK or US editions, it is actually a waste of music. A female empowering anthem but is just a fun song to listen to and with P!nk at her vocal and feisty best makes this song way better than anybody else ever could. This track is the perfect dance song but it is also one to listen to when you are angry, this song should be crowned song of the year right now!
So that is the end of my review, and what a long review. This album is actually amazing! for me it is the best of the year, and with P!nk never being fully recognised for her amazing musical talents, I truly hope this album brings P!nk amazing success. Bring on a Brit for P!nk.
10/10
